I did a contract to hire with TekSystems once and then got hired after 3 months. They told me after 1 month that they were interested in making me full time and the company matched my salary. By coming in like this instead of an internal recruiter, I was making 15-20k more than other people my level. Best decision ever.
Do the math and compare total comp $$ as opposed to base salary & hourly rate.
Let’s of yes but be cautious. Are you coming in as part of a project or a full-time need? I’ve hired a contractor for a very niche software that he was an expert in it. Hourly rate doubled his salary but 2 months after bringing him on, the company we were implementing with decided they were sunsetting the software and didn’t need the contractor. No safety net and we let him go.
1099s are responsible for their own social security. Also think about the 401K match and the life and disability insurance. 40K extra just doesn’t cover these benefits and social security payments in addition to being in a higher tax bracket.
A3 is correct, I believe it is a W2 role under Tek
The fact that it’s contract to HIRE is key- meaning the headcount is accounted for. Unless you suck horribly at your job, the company you’re being contracted for will usually want to onboard you into a full time position after whatever X months negotiated with TEK systems. It’s a gamble in the sense that a contractor may not get an offer if there’s a clash of personalities/expectations, but for the most part they do since they’re already deep into a project.
Also look at getting insurance elsewhere as it could be cheaper than what the recruiter is offering. Plus will you still be paid the same once it becomes full time?
Do it
1) consulting now is not guaranteed anyway, 2) Not many places you can really use PTO right now, 3) if it's 40K more with the recruiter imagine afterward without their cut
Just make sure you understand the conditions to convert, so they don’t just string you along.

How are the numbers for the alleged position at the end of the contract? When does the contract period end?
Sounds meh so far. I went from $130k salary plus benefits to earning about $225k as a contractor if you want to ask.
Do you mind telling me what kind of job you got this hour rate? I am working as a contractor for Tek and I just discovered that I have being underpaid. I have been receiving offers to work as a PM to get much more than working as Sr in Tek for J&J. Do you think I can try renegociate my contract? I don't want change jobs but I want a fair money! Please help me
