No advice, just jealousy. Enjoy your time off
A few years ago I quit the practice of law and took a job working in a bakery baking bread from 4am-noon for 6 months. I found that I missed the practice of law and ended up taking a job at a lifestyle firm (1250 billable) and love it.
I have no regrets about my brief detour from the law.

I love this anecdote! Thank you so much for sharing. I’m optimistic I’ll land whenever I’m meant to be too, wherever that may be!
You can DM me if you want to discuss potentially interviewing/joining my recruiting firm. We’re all ex-biglaw.
A3, that’s a thoughtful question. Yes, but you’d have to be naturally entrepreneurial yourself. Tbh, there are multiple paths to success. If you’re an associate who has invested in time with fellow associates or law school classmates, that is another way to thrive. If you lack salesmanship, attention to detail, and relationships in biglaw, you’ll likely fail.
I do help train though and show what’s worked for me. I would say a decent recruiter does 4-5 placements on average annually, but it is bimodal like biglaw. You’ll have many who get none, average is 4-5, and like the top 1% with 10+ (and .01 with 20+).
Pour yourself into a hobby. I find this sparks creative thinking outside the hobby and takes me out of panic mode. I have my best ideas for how to change things in my life when I’m painting or traveling.
Thank you so much!! Super helpful advice.
Why not try legal recruiting? You know all the industry terms, what’s market/not, different practices. There is no capital required to start doing it. If you’re doing nothing else, why not give it a shot? Atleast that’s what I would do to start.
I’m looking for additional recruiters in case you decide it’s something that would interest you.
I have been there, done that! I just started reading the group on fishbowl today and I have shared this a lot! I love the law and helping people but the job was not what I wanted. I ended up starting a legal resource brokerage. I help a lot of people and make much better money but do not have to do the tedious part of the job! Think outside of the box is the best advice I can give.
OP, how’s your time off been going?
I’m a whole new person. I never realized fully how much I had lost myself. My health, physically and mentally has bounded back tenfold! I’m still figuring out the next passion and that’s a little scary and uncertain, but I’m still sooo much happier. Definitely the right decision for me! I also never knew how much was out there being so laser focused on law. I’m sure I’ll find something—I’m just grateful to be in the process!
