My boyfriend was just let go after 3 years at what he thought was a "stable" job. If someplace is hiring, I'd say that's a good sign they're doing well right now. I'm in late stage interviews for another place and I say make the jump if your gut tells you to. Layoffs can happen anytime, for any reason, no matter how loyal you've been.
All I can add is that there’s no such thing anymore as a comfortable secure job. In fact, if you’re comfortable, I’d watch out. I’ve built up agencies threefold, increased accounts organically 10 fold.
Then when they needed the salary, I was gone. All the apologies and severance, but it didn’t help the sting of having to start again
I would go for it. If they are hiring, and especially a small agency, they have crunched numbers every which way to Sunday to know they can afford the role. As others stated, there are no secure jobs anymore. I started a new position remotely, it wasn’t as bad as you may think.
My coworkers and I who had been at our agency over 3 years were laid off due to COVID over 3 team members who had been there for 3mo so I say go for it. Length of time at an agency means nothing and if you are excited about the new position then it’s worth it. Is there a reason why you feel the new job wouldn’t be stable? Or are you more worried that the other agency is smaller? I think it’s about what you get to work on at the end of the day.
That makes sense, I say go for it! You can search for articles on making a connection with new coworkers virtually too. I can’t remember where I read it, maybe Fast Company.
Rising Star
There’s something to be said for security. That aside, I guess I’d think about my place in life. Are you single? Married? Kids? Will there be family nearby you can rely on?
Follow your gut.
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful replies! You are all very right that no job is secure, especially nowadays.
