I know these scenarios are posted all the time but… Iateralled last month/ super slow/ need support that l’m ok lol. Was super busy the first 2 real weeks of work but have been slow since the holidays (25-30 billable hours per week). Any support/ recommendations to ease the anxiety greatly appreciated :) My last firm was quite toxic and basically shamed me for ever having a slow day

Don't worry about it. I've been slow the entire month so far billing even less than that. Don't care.

Enjoy the slow times to mentally prepare for the insane times! This is what WLB looks like (to the extent it can be considered WLB) in many biglaw practice areas.

Just keep telling the partners and people you work with that you’re looking for work. I always do it in an email so I have record of the fact that I was asking for more work and keeping people aware of my situation and not just sitting on my butt doing nothing

You’re not alone in low hours! I think I had 12 hours last week? I’ve been watching a boatload of CLE videos and cranking out personal projects while I listen to them so that when the heavy workflow hits I’m not drowning in work and personal projects. I get the fear but if you ask for work like @AA1 said and still don’t get any, just try to enjoy it and get your own stuff done! It helps me with the anxiety of low hours because I feel like I’m doing something.

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

Does anyone in this group have ADHD? Are you finding that working in a law firm setting and billing hours is just not something they can do or is it possible with the proper medication and therapy?

I don’t cut my hours, I consistently reach 7 hours a day, but it’s not enough to meet my firm’s minimum requirement. I’m usually working 9 hours/day.

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
