I need a bit of advice…
I will be starting a new job soon where I will still be a PM, but I will have an employee who will report to me. At my previous job, I did not manage anyone. I will be managing a man who has been at the company for 20+ years among various roles and is now an associate product manager. I’m a young woman. He seems like a lovely person, but I would like advice on how to navigate managing someone who is nearing retirement, and has been at the company much longer.

What are some good books to read if I want to learn how to better show up for the team as a manager?

When I was coming up the ranks it was very common for managers to be verbally aggressive and in my opinion abusive. Have a lot of you experienced this too? Hated it greatly and vowed to never be like them.

I've been working at this company for about 3.5 weeks now. Its been great so far.

We have an org chart in our dashboard ATS/HRIS and so I clicked on my first day buddies name just for fun.

I was able to see her entire employee file..even her address. I was really freaked out and I went to another profile and the same thing happened, I was able to see this person's emergency contact. Is this fucking normal? Should I say something and will I get in trouble for looking at a colleagues file?

Is it normal for people to ask for a raise when more responsibility/task fall under them? My company is going through separation and unfortunately my team is the one getting separated, I have to take on responsibility of another 3 people and continue to deliver the same after separation… how will you start this conversation with your manager ? I’m pretty responsive for things they need help with like laundry machine got broken or pantry doors fell off. So I had sent people to fix those maintenance and repair issues.

I have yet to see a great platform with a strong UX that actually works well and finds opportunities aligned to candidates desires or strengths. Young lawyer here. I fell for an impersonation scam. Scammer pretended to be a very senior partner at my firm. I am mortified and embarrassed, as it’s not something I would normally fall for. I was in a rush and when I saw the partners name on the email my knee-jerk reaction was “if he says jump you ask how high”. I don’t care about the money I lost, I care far more about the opinions of others at my firm who now know about this (managing partner etc.). Is my credibility shot?
