If you know it will be forgiven, then it seems like a no-brainer. Just pay what you need to and put the rest toward life expenses.
The laws could always change, and they may find a way to not approve it. I feel like is not a 100% guaranteed.
Is there any downfall to delaying the 4 years? Major interest rates or service fees? I'm the type to just pay it off and not have that debt lingering, but saving 17-19K in the long run is a good chunk of change.
Honestly, I think you coyuld compromise and pay the difference now, but I wouldn't pay it off if you know it'll be forgiven - you think you'll save teh money, but lifestyle creep is a real thing and it sneaks up on you. Stick to the long-term plan
It wouldn’t work like that because the more I pay, the less that would be left for them to forgive. I don’t think I want to risk it in 4 years not being forgiven, I’m leaving towards paying it already…. But I feel dumb for it.
Did you check into the SAVE repayment plan? It depends on your income… I would call in to Student Aid. Gov etc and get some advice from some people to make sure you will qualify!!!
I really need to look into this. I applied for forgiveness but I never heard anything back about it so I am not sure what the best route is.
If it were me, I'd probably wait. What are the interest rates like? Keeping that 31k in a HISA is probably more beneficial.
