I think my boss is trying to slowly edge me out of my job by sabotaging me. They keep throwing me under the bus in meetings where their boss is present and not approving things I need and sometimes leaving me off important communications. We have friction personality-wise and I think they legit just want me out and are trying to make me miserable in the meantime so that I quit and the company doesn't have to pay me severance.

I would compile as much evidence as possible, making note of every issue past and present. I would go to HR and see how they can advocate for you and help rectify the situation. Good luck

like

That’s brutal. Document the issues as best you can and have a conversation with HR. I would make sure your resume is up to date and start your job hunt.

smart

That sounds terrible. I would document everything to protect yourself. Maybe you could meet with someone from HR to discuss your concerns. Make sure you have a resume ready and are looking at other opportunities. Doesn't seem like this is a place you can stay for the long haul. Good luck.

smart

Relatable, I felt like I was pushed into the corner until I quit. Sad truth: HR doesn't do $#!t

helpful

Agree with all here but bear in mind that if you quit you won't get severance and unemployment.

like

Ugh, I feel your pain. They could be “quiet firing”.

But also playing devils advocate, maybe the boss isn’t very self aware and is facing issues we don’t know about.

If I were in your shoes, I would have a meeting with the manager and talk through ways I could improve the relationship. Meanwhile, I’d also look for a new gig.

Document all and share with HR asap

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Personally I can relate to what you’re going through. Obviously they’re being apparent in what they’re doing even if they’re not trying to be. What I did was wait it out, but in the mean time I still did what I needed to do, and just kept detailed notes of behaviors, response times, what work I completed, how long it took approval times if they even responded at all. Take all this information and leave it in a non spiral notebook. When someone brings up late approvals, or not receiving emails and what have you, turn back to the date and time and reiterate that it’s there in writing how long it took for said person to respond or if they did at all. Then write a new entry about the meeting what was discussed who brought it up and their response. Do not tear pages out, if you mess up something simply cross it out and continue to write next to it. That book becomes your proof of treatment, and how long it’s taking for someone to respond. Emails are also a great tracker because of dates and time so always use that as well when you’re requesting a response/meeting. Make sure you have at least 2 follow up emails “touching base” on a prior email that’s sent as well. This shows lack of communication on their end when they don’t respond.

If this is something that you don’t want to endure anymore I would suggest looking for another place of employment. If you can do the above, and want to stay, kill them with kindness is my go to saying.

Good luck

Is it misleading to just look at Total Compensation from a $ dollar value/ Total Compensation seems to be much more subjective than base salary in terms of its value. Some factors might be:

RSUs granted on dollar value or by # of shares & stock price trends
Vesting schedule
strike price on ISOs & delta between strike price and real market value

For instance, most of value in Amazon's comp seems to be granted in years 3 & 4, but it's well known that most people last only 2 years max there.

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. I work in finance and at this point I’m expected to handle closing documents, manage first years, draft some portions of major docs, etc. I feel like I’m always frazzled, constantly second guessing if I handled something correctly and anxious to answer calls from clients/OC. The worst part is I think people can tell I’m a mess....
