“Watched Webinar on ____.” “Read article on ____ by ____.” “Attended CLE on ____.” I can echo associate 1 that it doesn’t make a difference for comp or advancement, but in my case as a new associate it does show the partners that I’m not just slacking when I don’t have any new work yet or I’m in between assignments. We have a separate distinction for marketing activities that do count toward our goals though.

I don't keep track of all of mine, but when I do it's a minimal entry. "PLU CLE." "Meeting with bank VP." "Christmas cards." Etc. Our nonbillable hours have zero effect on our comp or advancement, so I only track when I need a placeholder for my own reference.
If it’s business development, writing articles, or training, I’ll usually log it similar to a billable matter so I can go back and look at those entries for my own tracking purposes. Anything else is very informal, as no one (including me) will ever look at it.
I go into more detail than most, mostly for my own records (including when preparing for my annual evaluation). But I certainly don't follow all the rules like I do for billable entries!
