Pretty standard for MBB to bring people in a level below where they are elsewhere.
Yes of course. The pay will probably be better since BCG pays more and it'll make your transition easier starting at a lower level. It's a demotion in title only, but a promotion in prestige, type of work, exit opps, etc
Get tenure credit in writing. I really regret only having a verbal agreement
Out of curiosity what is the interview process like.. do they actually go through cases or discuss more substantial topics
Yes, very common and it's probably best for yourself as well to get used to the new working style etcetera. as BCG3 said, even former MBBs can get dropped down, my office had a similar case recently of a PL coming from BCG.
To several Deloitte folks that have gone over and love the work and the culture, but I'm struggling with the idea of the demotion. Getting to SM hasn't been easy for me. Assuming they meet the salary expectations, would you make the jump?
If you can get some tenure credit and agree on a good path to principal if you're successful it is probably worth it.. if you wrap things up nicely at Deloitte you can come back if needed and your exit options from BCG will be similar and vastly improve once you're promoted. Also if you're feeling the instability at Deloitte, that is less of an issue at BCG.. you'll eventually have sales pressures but it's not the same
So far, 3 interviews, one with HR, a conversational interview with an exec and a real life strategy case with a second exec. My understanding is there is one more interview left, but unsure if it'll be a case or behavioral.
Is this for expert track?
I don't believe so... they haven't mentioned expert track so far. What is it?
What's tenure credit?
PL (manager) is a two-year gig. Principal (what your calling AD?) is four years. Then Partner.
Yeah I know at BCG people usually take a position step back. I even know a Case Team Leader from Bain (which is equal to our Project Leader) that came in as a 2nd year consultant with us
Up or out comes fast. If you stretch up a role, you're evaluated against the same metrics as dyed-in-the-woolers.
Thanks everybody for the info and the feedback! Much appreciated! I hope I get through all the interviews... I'm already daydreaming of what could be!
Good luck. 👍🏻
