Howdy 👋 I’m a designer but I feel like the experience translates a bit.
I’ve been at tech startups for 6ish years and was at an agency before that. There’s a lot of freedom to be creative in the tech startup world, especially if you get in early at a company and get to shape what the brand looks like and sounds like. But budgets are small so you may not get to execute on a whole lot. There seems to be a lot more room to grow professionally, though, and progressing through the career ladder can go a little quicker from what I’ve seen (mostly because every team is strapped and you’ll have to wear lots of hats). I can’t speak to larger tech companies though, so things may be different there.
Thanks for the insight!
I’m a copywriter in FAANG. I’m not senior, but performing at senior level. Only writer on my team, defining the role for myself essentially. I’ve connected with other writers across company and they are all extremely busy (or at least they want to appear so). I am as well, but it’s much less creative than my previous roles, which is honestly a million times less stressful. I don’t have to work weekends or 12 hours days but I have been recently because I am new and the economy is scary. I am also paid incredibly well.
