Take a short trip somewhere cheap and clear your mind. Do whatever it is that you like to do. Home. Ride a motorcycle. Lay on a beach. I don't recommend alcohol as it clouds your brain and makes your body feel shitty. Healthy break.
Also Canada. It's just a nice place.
I quit my job without anything lined up in November after enduring two years in a highly toxic environment. Put my stuff in storage. Traveled a bit. Then the recruiters started calling! I wasn't looking for a gig, but I had regained clarity and perspective re: what I wanted for my job and my life. Which is all to say, take the leap. The Universe will catch you.
Solidarity. I wish you luck. I might be in the same position soon.
Where so we can avoid your agency
Buy a we work station for a month. Keep up you’re working routine. You’ll have a job you are excited about before the month is over. Worked for me in exactly the same boat
I quit without anything lined up for the same reason. Took time off to enjoy the holidays, make a cross-country move, relax and recoup, but the job hunt took longer than I anticipated, which gave me a good amount of anxiety until I found something. I’d recommend either putting some feelers out before you leave or telling yourself you could be unemployed for a few months so that you can be okay with it and enjoy the break rather than feel anxious. Best of luck!!
Agree. I’m all for quitting when you need to in order to do right by yourself, but it can take a while to find a new job. Have to make sure you have enough savings to live on for sure.
Contemplating this daily. I’ve quit every job I’ve ever had, with no job lined up. It’s always worked out, but with a lot of anxiety and wiping out my savings each time. So I’m trying to break the pattern. My problem is I am so depleted and demotivated by my current job — and I KNOW I am DONE with agencies — I feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start. But, on the positive side, I know how much easier it is to get hired while employed. Ugh. What I truly want to do is go off the grid for a month.
I did the same, and I felt so much better for it. When I was at the agency, I felt burnt out, my confidence and self esteem were a wreck. I left and took some time to get healthy, get back in a good mental space. It’s taken me longer than expected to get another job, but I have a few interviews lined up this week and my confidence, self esteem and motivation has improved so much. Good luck!
I was in the same position a couple of years ago, but quitting that job was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. It may take some time to find a new position, but don’t get discouraged by rejection. Take every call, go to every interview that comes your way, and enjoy your time off until your next first day of work. At least it worked for me. Good luck - and enjoy that feeling of waking up on a Monday and not having to go to a job you hate. It’s a good one.
Good luck! I totally hear you...you need time to detox.
Did the same. Twice. Both times took some time off to travel, work on myself, be healthy etc. Both times found way better jobs. Should mention the second time I did not even do because of burnout. Just because I had some savings and found the experience of time for myself so valuable.
Good for you.
Good luck! I think that’s a great idea. It’s hard to be positive about accomplishments when you’re stuck in a funk.
Good luck to you
Are most people on this thread in NYC? Just curious
Is the ruse up?
Go on vacation. Sounds counter intuitive but will help clear your head faster and be ready for something new.
Doing the same but can’t decide when is the “best time” do to so...
Wish I could do the same but “visas” are a real struggle...
Talk to a Career Coach. There are a lot of jobs out there...but getting the right one is still challenging.
