is consulting the right fit for me? im a senior undergrad with healthcare/consulting background & been interested in consulting because of the opportunity for communication (i love networking/meeting new people), travel, strategy, problem solving, and structure involved. after hearing about the toxic culture/work hours that it carries im second guessing this. what are some other fields i could look into? health tech and healthcare product management are 2 things that seem fitting. how do i pivot

if you think all of consulting is toxic based on some disgruntled fishbowl comments…

like

Dont ever let Reddit get to your head. Most of the time you’re reading a comment written by a college freshman who just finished their first philosophy class and think they’ve figured out the whole world.

like

Don’t walk away from consulting just for what you heard about culture. This highly depends on the company itself and the region or office you join! Do some more research, from what you said it seems you’d be a great fit for this career. Try it out for a year and then decide for yourself. In general, Bain and Kearney are known for good culture along with several boutique firms that pay well and maintain great culture. What region are you in?

like

Bain/Kearney would be a formidable tie-up. Still would be much smaller than y’all though

I think the negative culture thing is pretty overblown, this is a complaint app after all - that being said, you've seen the consulting downsides discussed, but what about health tech?

As a boston native, I can tell you that there are TONS of biotech startups with negative culture - deifying founders, compulsory happy hours where EVEYONE gets sloppy, and otherwise abusing the "we're a family" refrain to avoid scrutiny.

like

Consulting culture is not that toxic come on…

Well i love hearing that, it’s just not the impression i’ve gotten :/

Is bad culture synonymous with work hours because you said culture/hours. We have kind of a cool culture but super not cool work hours.

Hi all! I recently finished my Masters in Biology. I worked on a few studies with human subjects as well as animal work. I am hoping to get a job in clinical research as either a CRC or CRA. What advice do you all have for entering the field in my position?
Thanks!!

Healthcare corporations… please note you have more then 1 shift of workers. You have 3 most times, each shift has to be treated equally. This is and always have been an issue, and you cannot figure out why the other shifts refuse to be active and participate in anything and definitely not engaged anymore.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

Will there be any impact if I don't perform as per their expectations?
Will it be of any benefit to me if work in voluntary project? Will HR recognize this project contribution as valid work?
