Depends on your definition of mid-size and seniority level of a "Director".
Generally, official definitions put small businesses are those with fewer than 100 employees; midsize are 100-999; and large are 1,000+.
If you're talking about a company with like 900 employees, ye sure it's possible. But if you're talking about a "midsize" fortune 500 company, probably not likely.
To add to the point above, it depends on the nature of the work the consultant was doing and often on the prestige of their experience.
I still would lean towards it being uncommon for most but not rare. I’ve seen MBB SBAs / Associates easily transition to director type roles in medium sized firms (if we go with the definitions of size from SC1). But they were generally excellent, and targeted their landing spot very carefully.
Lol I’m a Senior Associate and I’m definitely NOT director material 😂
