Is it me, or is there something going on? A trend I noticed in LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Indeed, and most platforms.

Companies are reposting the same jobs from months ago. Most generic replies are that they are overwhelmed with the number of applicants they're receiving, and yet they cannot hire someone for almost 3 months.

Yeah, it's pretty demoralizing. I have seen it from the inside as well.. At my last position, we had an opening for 6 months.. Everytime and applicant was pushed through, suddenly the position need was removed by HR or Payroll. That applicant just disappears. Then within 10 days, the job is reposted. I found out a lot of times this is done because there is an internal employee that is being prepared or pressured to apply for the position.. If they can't make it past the requirements, or can't get a department release from their director, they are disqualified..

The truth is they were just pushing the workload onto the rest of the team, and had no intention of filing the position. The further truth is that once we past the performance appraisal phase, they just removed the position completely.

Large companies have no incentive to hire.. only to cut cost by cutting Employee's.. They can outsource other companies to handle the workload, and not have to deal with the cost of employees on the bottom line.

If they pay a 3rd party to cover the work, it stops being their problem, they can strongarm the 3rd party company with failure to meet deadlines, obligations, or the unrealistic KPI goals they set.. Then they can renegotiate the contract or claw back payment..

Customer service or the clients are of little regard it seems. Almost like they have accepted that they have reached market saturation and the only way to keep making money is through asset acquisition and cutting expenses. They are becoming nothing more than venture capitalist pecking at the dying body of their own firm...
It's sad and not sustainable, but as long as customers accept it as the cost of doing business it will not change..

I've been told that those job boards now automatically repost them after a bit if the poster didn't close it off or marked as filled. Some recruiter don't even notice that it's being reposted so now, I would go on their official company page to check to make sure the posting is still active.

like

Sometimes even the career page of the company isn’t up to date. HR is the most useless job today. They do zero work.

It is not a recent thing. Companies open jobs for mandatory green card sponsorships and sometimes for a just in case situation. They may end up not doing anything for it for months.
Now recently, they are looking for the exact perfect candidate they want that has a ton of experience, worked the exact position before, willing to do the job of 10 people alone for a few years while building his team and be an entrepreneur. Easy, right? Why would a person with that skillset or ability accept such a position? They would open their own company and compete with you.
Companies are just not being realistic about their expectations. Just like California based companies offering candidates salaries they would receive in the Midwest when clearly the cost of living is twice as high.

I saw a posting this morning that is going to be open until 10/31/2025. Does that mean that won't even hire until 2026?

companies trying to show growth in LinkedIn metrics and Ai summaries, and recruiters ensuring they use the platform for the seats they already paid for. taking down is manual, so jobs keep getting reposted due to automated clicks

like

Gosh maybe they should stop using leetcode to vet developers then

Absolutely agree. I saw this a lot when I was job searching. I even saw recruiters gloating about jobs they had “successfully” filled yet was reposting the same job.

Someone did tell me that there are a lot of fake jobs kicking about. Basically companies wanting to make it look like they are growing when they are not.

I applied for most jobs via LinkedIn the vast majority (in fact all but 1) didn’t even get viewed. My C.V. Never got viewed at all (LinkedIn alerts you when either gets viewed)

like

They are farming data and it looks good that they are seeking applicants if not.

like

Yes the job postings are fake and according to St. Louis federal reserve data , job posting number as same as height of Covid June 2020 . The job market for IT workers is gone .

like

Start reporting them to the FTC for false job postings

like

Also remember that, in some locations, companies must post a job publicly. Even if the position is already filled by a pre-determined person. IE hiring friends, family, or internal. And always double check the source of the posting. A lot of fake recruiters are pretending to be companies lately.

like

That's annoying and sad, lol

It’s not just you — I’ve noticed the same. Job listings are being recycled across platforms for months with vague timelines and zero updates. Many roles say they’re overwhelmed with applicants, but no movement happens for weeks (or months).

It’s frustrating, especially for freelancers and creatives actively looking for solid gigs. If roles are open that long, it either signals unclear hiring processes, unrealistic expectations, or just poor communication.

To all companies hiring:
✅ Clear timelines = trust
✅ Honest updates = better applicants
✅ Respecting applicants’ time = better brand image

like

This has been the way it has been since 2020. Bunches of fake listings or just really indecisive employers. Worse yet are the companies that are faking growth with ghost listings.

I’ve watched the same jobs be reposted over 6 times since I started job hunting Sept 2024. It starts to feel like the hoops to jump through, rewritten questions you’re answering and submitting videos with applications are just farming us.

Honestly, it’s as frustrating as a dating site. And it’s likely the same dynamic.

The Hiring Manager has 100’s or more entries to look through in whatever given period of time, and then there’s the applicants. Sitting anxiously by for a wiggle of the carrot, or a rejection notice… and even most times NOTHING at all. Meanwhile all you get are the same profiles on recycle/repeat.

Then a second issue of having applied to so many(60+), I’ve made an extensive spreadsheet regarding jobs I’ve applied for where they are, though whom I received word. And I’m just a few short weeks of the search, where I’ve almost applied to the same job through 4 different “vendors”.

Everyone seems desperate for help, but apparently looking for some sort of unicorn, instead of a human with a learning opportunity.

Think it’s time we started back into Trades and unions, folks!
