Is it normal for us to get like super irritable and upset when we’re being forced to do an activity we really don’t want to do, like something at work requiring you to be very organized? I find myself feeling rebellious and irritated on a nearly constant basis when I do mundane organizational tasks especially on a time sensitive basis.

OMG me too!

YES. It makes me irate sometimes and I’m a pretty easygoing person lol

likeuplifting

Me too!!! It can’t be healthy to get irate over being asked to track down and send various documents that look very similar to each other and are easy to mix up… and all due immediately. All of the tasks on my plate today and for the next few days are high executive function organizational tasks. I want to do strategy and big picture planning not minutiae

like

Yep. That’s the goblin brain rebelling at doing things it doesn’t like. I leverage support staff to do a lot of the mundane tasks, and when one falls to me I remind myself of all those other tasks I’ve offloaded. The perspective helps

like

It doesn’t need to be a ton. The point is to remind yourself of all the work you don’t have to do.

Anddddd I ended up crying today. Too many people asking me for too many things at once, all of them allegedly urgent, all of them crabby about it, and there just wasn’t enough of me to go around. I shut down and just lied down crying and feeling numb. Couldn’t do it. I feel like today is awash and I should just start over, but I can’t stomach the thought of someone maybe complaining about me behind my back then them checking my billables and seeing they weren’t that high today. So on I trudge.

like

My wife constantly has urgent things for me to do. Sometimes they’re legit urgent, and that’s fine, but most of the time the things don’t seem urgent to me, and it’s a long-standing irritant. The history of this over years just makes it worse. Interesting that this may be an ADHD thing.

like

That would annoy me to no end

After 4 years I want to leave law because of my adhd! I have been to 4 different firms and at each place I feel like I have been “found out”. At every place at least one attorney catches me about my attention to detail. I am so down on myself now. I can’t bring myself to care about small details that I know don’t actually matter. Sitting at a desk all day in word documents is the ultimate form of torture to me. My strengths are talking to people. I am super outgoing. Looking for a new career
