This is mostly true for the fed side. The state, local, and higher education portion have worse hours.
Of course.

I would say actual project work tends towards 40/week, while FI gets you to the 45-50 range on average, depending on your level. At M+, all bets are off.
This is for the fed side of GPS, can't speak to state and local.
That sounds like great hours for consulting honestly. I’m assuming you mean way more time at M+?
Idk about tech projects specifically, but I’ve averaged 45-50 hours over 2 years with GPS. Pay is a bit less than commercial but still solid, so it evens out I’d say
Definitely seems like a fair trade off to me
I do more than that on average in gps, but I am a SM
What's gps?
Government and public services - so federal or state work mostly
Can confirm — I started consulting doing private and public (live in DC) and the fed projects are generally much slower in pace. You make less $$ in GPS vs commercial but IMO worth it once you break it down hourly (and if WLB is your end goal)
I’d think there are a ton of long-term IT implementation projects you could explore that would provide decent WLB 👍
