Not quite.
- I wouldn't invest in dividend stocks at all. Tax inefficient. Even if taxes aren't an issue (like in a Roth IRA), you're wasting space holding these there instead of something better like broad market indexes. Dividend funds almost always underperform major indexes like VTI in the long run.
- Your Roth IRA is where your highest growth assets should be since it'll be tax free. Why would you want medium growth dividend funds here.
- If you're dabbling in riskier investments like individual tech stocks, there's no guarantee they'll actually go up in the long run, so having those in a taxable account is fine so you can get the deduction in case of having to sell at a loss.
- If you don't know what you're doing (aka 99% of people), put the majority of your investments into broad market indexes (and some bonds when you're close to retirement).
