I’m job hunting in Los Angeles, looking at a variety of titles (HRBP, Sr. HRBP, Manager, Sr. Manager, Director). I have 8 YOE and my SHRM-SCP. I reached my report limit on payscale.com, so I used a variety of other sites to price the roles (BLS, salary.com, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Robert Half). The problem I’m having is the huge inconsistencies between sources (there are $40k differences between some of the identified medians). (Continued…)

Unless that promotion is in writing, signed by HR and the partners I’d leave.
Actions speak louder than words. If you are valued, why can't they do the promotion now?
Don’t fall for the “we’ll promote you next year” line. I did and it didn’t happen til 2 years later. Leave if it’s more money and more exciting
Just made the move. DM if you want to chat.
Messaged! Thanks
Verbal guarantee for something nine months down the road is meaningless.
Depends on your motivations for wanting to leave I’d say!
If money is your main deciding factor then stay at KPMG but if it’s more about the opportunity and you’re excited about the role then you should go to Accenture.
Maybe if it’s the latter, reach out to Accenture to confirm there will be opportunity there for you to progress in a similar time frame if you do join.
Money is always enticing but not always enough. You will still want to leave for the same reasons you do now if you stay.
KPMG is very used to making such false promises of mid year promotions. There are no mid year promotions.
I work for the Australian firm and our promotion cycle is mid year
You already made up your mind when you started to interview so pull the trigger and don’t look back. If you didn’t like it (and mistakes can happen) it’s better to return as a boomerang then trying to negotiate more money. And btw if promotion is not in writing it’s worthless and I would rather take a higher salary than a retention bonus..salary is harder to pull back
Thanks!
As a person who got retained after getting a job in Deloitte, I’d say don’t stay. Firstly promotions in written one year advance is not something the HR will do, even if you have a great relationship with the supervisor. Secondly, your relationship with your supervisor will change for sure. In addition to extreme workload coming your way (happened with me) there will always be an air of tension if your supervisor doesn’t know how to let go of things. Thirdly, you’ll start getting FOMO of the job you didn’t take. Also you can ask a joining bonus in Accenture for sure. If you substantiate that you’ll bring your best self confidently you just might get it.
DO NOT rely on verbal promotion communication. Contract and or in writing from HR. This is a ploy to get you to stay.
A little late in replying to this it looks like, but if you haven’t made a decision yet, it’s always worth talking to your recruiter about it. Depending on the role, they may be able to at least offer a higher sign-on to seal the deal (especially if you say that it would). They may not have any wiggle room, but it is worth a shot and Accenture won’t reneg because you’re asking a simple question that lots of people ask.
What you should have done is discussed this at the start of the process…
The old recruiter adage is: people who take retention offers generally leave after six months anyway. Accenture won’t rescind the offer if you ask what they can do, but don’t be surprised if they say they can’t do more
Next JUNE? So much can happen in an organization that far into the future, it seems like a risk unless you have a deep trust in your leadership. But even then, the decision could be out of their hands. I wouldn't tell the recruiter the timeline but I would say you're on track for a promo to assist with negotiating. I'm sure you knoweth, but aside from money don't forget about fringe benefits and culture as considerations.
