Agreed. Anything more than a week (5 business days) without follow up of some kind is pushing it. They also make poor hiring choices by setting unrealistic requirements for open opportunities —that unicorn they signed on will no doubt ditch them for a better / higher paying opportunity before their probation period ends.
Exactly. Silence after a strong interview sends the wrong signal. Even a quick update goes a long way, and chasing unicorns often costs more time and talent in the long run.
Agreed, during Covid, I had three pending offers, AT&T, Neilsen, and Edward Jones.
AT&T had the highest compensation but the executive who signs off on hiring was on vacation for 3 weeks even though the hiring manager and director approved of the hire, but nothing official until boss comes back. [trust me bro doesnt pan well in corporate America]
Neilsen 2nd highest comp, wanted to do an additional tech interview in person in the next 2 weeks.
Jones offered market value the next morning. Yeah, so speed to securing a candidate is key for both sides.
Perfect example. When candidates have options, speed becomes the differentiator. Clear and timely offers win, hesitation usually loses great people.
I would say anything more than 2 weeks
