If the PMD said it with kindness and like you said provided actionable feedback, I will count myself lucky and take steps to improve in areas they’ve mentioned, setup frequent checkins with them and make them a mentor for life. Most people will not give you that feedback but it will show up in your official report. Thank them and see it in a positive light. Seems like they are invested in your growth!
Thank you! I’ve taken that approach and have check ins with them now.
Listen to the feedback and try to improve
Will do; thank you!
sounds like the pmd did you favor by telling you first. start looking.
Not every constructive feedback means that leadership wants you out, sometimes its just a wakeup call. If you agree with the feedback take it to heart and see what you can do to improve.
Write down what you heard, and figure out how you are going to improve in those areas. Work on them, and have an occasional check in with that PMD (‘hi, just wanted to report back, you told me I needed to work on x and y, and here are some things I’ve done’). Get feedback from others, see if you hear common themes.
Thank you! I’ll definitely do that.
Great opportunity to build a strong relationship with them as you improve. You got this!
Thank you very much! I appreciate it.
What did you struggle with
EY3, let’s lead with kindness please!
Don’t compare yourself to others but maybe take some of the other seniors out to lunch and see what’s working for them. That kind of feedback is a knock on the ego a bit but the fact that they are giving you advice first shows they want you to improve and you would rather know now. Take it as a challenge. I also practice gratitude each morning to put me in a better mood for work, there’s so much I’m sure you have accomplished to get to where you’re at now and you’re not stopping now or letting that affect your work ethic. Come up with a plan for yourself how you’re going to implement these changes and continue to ask for feedback on how you’re doing.
