Know of anyone that's moved from public and into a corporate role (non Wall Street), specifically Capital One in a financial analyst role. Just looking for general thoughts and experiences

Most financial services firms aren't on Wall Street so next time just say you don't want to work in NYC. Saying what you mean is a good start.

like

@EY1 you are aware Capital One has financial analysts positions outside of NYC? Good, glad we re able to add some specificity there. Read the post next time.

like

Glad you were able to clarify once you visited their exact address online

like

I work a few blocks down at Blackstone actually. Also, financial analyst is the most vague title at a bank. Like any large company you're going to find people love or hate their jobs

like

It was that way when I started. Then things picked up dramatically and it hasn't been the same since. I do like the actual work I'm doing though.

like

Capital One is a financial services company so therefore is on "Wall Street".

Also, their NYC office is on Park Ave, not Wall Street so once again your post makes zero sense.

^how do you like blackstone? And how are the hours?

Mehh. Hours are getting progressively worse since they fired someone and didn't hire a replacement. Working until 10-11pm these days so might be time to move on.

I thought moving to industry was supposed to mean better hours. Not worse. Lol. I was expecting you to say 6 or 7pm

Which group in bx. I do notice alot of ex-ey folks working there

Had an interview for an associate position at Citi. Interviewee was based in London and I’m in NYC. The only interview time that worked was 6am. I was barely functioning and feel like I truly messed up in my answers because I couldn’t not think clearly. I have another with the head of the division next week again at 6am (pre determined before this interview). It was also hard because the division’s core work is private enough that there was not much prep I could do beforehand. Tips?

Associate at an AmLaw 100 firm doing patent work. I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). Do I try to stick it out at the firm while getting the masters, ask for a reduced hours schedule, or get a part time, non-legal job so I can focus more on the program (one year).

I recently interviewed with Natwest and I got confirmation that they wanted to offer a role. Salary negotiations were started. However, now I got an email from the hiring manager that hiring for my role has been paused due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. He expects to resume the hiring for the role in Q1 '23 and would resume the process then. So is it the end? Honestly, I don't expect him to come back. But what do you think?

Are all Big 4 firms equally tone deaf, or is it just EY? I feel like they don’t address the fact that people are leaving in droves and the ones left behind are burnt out - we continue to have these big growth targets, but fewer and fewer people to actually do the work.

Are private companies easier to work at than public companies in accounting? We have such an accelerated close deadline at the publicly traded company I’m at now, I really hate the inflexible tight deadlines and analysis seems to drag on forever after that. Do private companies start their close after the month actually ends?
