1. Miserable
2. They push to undercut better production cos to keep it in-house. Clients no longer care about the quality of the work and agency C-suites are too afraid push and defend it, though those of us in the middle try.
3. All client decisions are driven by the balance sheet. Agency C-suite can care less. Money for their bonuses and shareholders
4. Yearning to exit but nowhere to go but the unemployment line.
Accurate.
1. Depends on the brand. Many creatives recognize that it’s a job and not everything needs to be a portfolio piece or Cannes fodder.
2. The agency keeps revenue if production stays in house which means more money to hire people but most recognize the limitations of in-house production capabilities. The rub is the less chances in-house production gets to show what it can do, the less trust there is that they can pull it off or get exposure to cutting-edge work to build the capability. Of course if you have an outspoken ECD or CCO w external prod they love then craft beats revenue bc awards are more important than keeping money in house.
If you’re running a business - any business - the rule to stay alive is “the customer is always right.”
Clients don’t care about creative quality like they used to…so now the holding cos don’t care as much either. Give the customer what they want: in this case, fast and cheap. And oh, keep revenue in house if you can.
Yucky
it’s a paycheck for now until the next consolidation. Keeping resume up to date.
