What's the salary range for a director at the Gilead Sciences foundation? There is a position perfect for me, but I don't want to throw my hat in the ring if starting salary isn't $180-190k. Also, any thoughts on the stability of their philanthropic commitment? There's talk of a recession; I don't want to go private to be cute a few months later.

where are you located? in NY it's ILLEGAL to ask past salary
No. And besides, they have a certain number they’re willing to pay whoever takes that role. And that number shouldn’t have anything to do with your past salary. The only concern for the agency is - do you fit within their desired range.
Yeah. I don’t know what the laws are in London. But I’m hopeful that it’s not allowed in the first place as it weakens the worker and strengthens companies. And hell...even if it was allowed, most companies I know are too lazy to do that kind of digging.
Like everyone said, it’s illegal to ask about past salary in the U.S - at least in NYC. UK I can’t speak to. But realize companies lie to candidates and employees all the time. About lots of shit.
Not to my knowledge!
London
Most companies ask ‘what are your salary expectations’ in NY. And it’s fine if you phrase it that way.
When a company asks for your current salary, say “for the role I am interviewing for, I would be looking for something within this range” and give a range you are comfortable with. Your current role is not the one you are interviewing for.
I thought they could confirm job title and salary, but I could be wrong.
Not salary or title actually. Only if you were employed
Yes, I think accounts department will know what you were earning. Don’t they need this info to prep your P11D for tax?
They’d only get that information - I guess from your previous employer or from HMRC after your employment starts, I think.
No
In Michigan I’ve had to fill out past job applications that actually asked what you made at your past jobs. Do you leave that spot blank?
I’d check and see if there’s any law that prevents that. As I said it just became illegal in Illinois just last week
The law is different in the UK. It’s not illegal for an employer to ask. And being found to have lied could be grounds for withdrawal of an offer.
