How’s work life balance in forensics?
Hello, I'm looking at a position within Paypal. My question, what is the work life balance, expectation for office (hybrid/remote/other) and is the pay comparable to other companies? Reviewing Director and Senior Director roles on the business side. I have over 15 years experience with multiple degrees. TIA!

Everyone at my firm knows I'm off the computer (barring a real emergency) from 5:30p to 7:30p, which is dinner time, play time and sleep routine time for my little one. I then get back on the computer afterward. Everyone around here speaks to horror stories but there are supportive firms and partners out there. If your firm isn't one, find a new one (after you take full advantage of maternity and all other leaves available to you).
I’ve worked with two lawyers who agreed to a reduced schedule with the firm - one cut back to 70% and one to 50% - to keep active in practice but also to allow for flexibility with raising a family. The one who scaled to 50% did that for 4 years then came back to full time practice, and was elected partner 3 years ago.
The one who scaled to 70% did so 4 years ago and likes the arrangement so is staying there for the time being. We’ve had the conversation about partnership and when she’s ready to come back full time she’ll be a shoo in for partnership. We don’t hold it against folks who want/need a different arrangement.
Not every firm is like that but it’s an option worth exploring!
Thanks! This is very reassuring to hear. My firm has a part-time option that I can explore and knowing that (at least at your firm) the decreased workload doesn’t detract from a good candidate’s eligibility for partnership makes me more comfortable at least inquiring. I appreciate the insight!
Are the hours you’re currently working required? I ask because if you’re billing 2000+, then maybe just have a few years of just hitting the requirement (especially if you’re not up for partner in the next few years).
Yes, they’re required :/
When I had my first kid, I went to a 70% schedule and never looked back. I dont have any plans to go higher than that. My husband is a partner in biglaw. This is the absolute ideal situation for me. Feel free to DM me.
