I'd tell them I charge $100/hr.
You either won't hear back or make a good chunk of extra money!
So clearly your personal email is posted where parents can find it. Many schools have rules about allowing their employees to work as a private tutor for students outside of sanctioned school tutoring opportunities. This parent was actually smart about not sending it to your work email. If you aren’t interested, say so. Many teachers love to make extra income doing 1:1 tutoring. It’s not that deep.
They might be willing to pay you more than what the district would pay for summer school! I might consider it
Uh…… that’s a NO REPLY.
I would consider how they got your personal email.
I’ve tutored privately. The most important thing, if you are considering, is how it’s going to effect your summer plans? They may want babysitting/tutoring for 6 hours 5 days a week or an hour a day. Have some sources for them to take their child else where if your time is not as open as they think it is.
They can offer to pay me $500 an hour, but I am not rearranging my summer plans.

I agree with you advice especially the last part. I can’t do summer school and won’t rearrange my schedule.
Only one thing I disagree with…”have some sources for them to take their child elsewhere.” Not the teacher’s job to figure this out for parents. A yes or no with cost (if you do it) is all that is needed.
If they use your personal email and/or phone number you could be open to termination and or losing your license.
If ONE THING goes wrong, an allegation, or your district finds out you are in commmunication with a family and child through an unofficial method of communication… only communicate/ meet through official channels to back yourself. Notify admin immediately. No one will be in trouble, but if you do not get ahead and there is an issue..
As admin I open up myself to termination if I give out personal phone or send ONE text and I have had to fire coaches, subs, one teacher and a counselor no matter what their intentions.
“Id do it” or “make extra cash”? Really bad idea.
Typical admin. Useless advice.

That’s a NO can do.
We aren’t allowed to tutor our own students here in MA- it violates the conflict of interest laws we have to follow here. Do they not have the laws in other states?
Rising Star
I’m not sure it’s a law in PA, but highly discouraged.
I’d bite! 😎
I had gotten something similar as well 😂
