So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

I hear you, but it's not like our industry is exactly overflowing with female creative leadership of any race. I've worked at three agencies in my career and have encountered exactly four women with a CD title or higher.
I know people will disagree with me here, however I simply don't think we should include white female CCOs as being equal to yet another white man getting the gig.
It's no excuse for neglecting POC. But I'm happy to see more women in those positions. And I'm looking forward to see many more women get them, including women of color and women in the LGBTQ+ community.
Sad reality: digital agencies are a bastion of racism and sexism but in the most nefarious and underhanded way possible I.e. conscious and unconscious bias at play not straightforward open. Worked at traditional agencies my entire career and there were far more POC and women in management roles than at any of the three digital shops I’ve worked at. Ours being one of them.
Curious. And a totally general question. Are we celebrating women in leadership positions even when they create an environment full of toxicity and bullying? Women who don’t champion other women, but play the boys club game to solely benefit themselves?
blind and deaf celebrations?
Shut up guys they’ll hear you!
While I agree with you, Walter Greer was hired as ECD in NY basically running VMLYRs pharmacy practice. Not saying this is enough but it’s a start. Also this is the whole white women cutting in line and hijacking the woke movement point that Bill Burr made on SNL.
Look at our leaders all are blond white women like their boss Debbie. There are no shortage of white women in advertising leadership at large national agencies but there is a glaring lack of representation on the POC side. The only qualifier you could add that would make sense is digital agency because most digitally based shops are lacking both. But let’s look at our exec hires for past six months: one white man, two white women (you could say one black man but in reality he reports to another white man)
Why is this surprising everyone? It’s all talk.

What do CCOs even do?
CCOs are a dime a dozen these days. The real creative chief give themselves chairman titles and then bring a team to make them look more diverse in front of clients.
If they were genuinely better than any POC option I don't see a problem with this. Do you?
I think it’s a systemic issue. Scholarships to school. That sort of thing.
I think in today’s world being a POC is a competitive advantage. There are directives to hire POC’s within organizations across the board. People genuinely do want to help.
The problem is that when you focus on hiring a small pool of people there aren’t a lot of options. You need to increase the pool. Not by hiring people who are less qualified. But by increasing the number of qualified people.
Sis white guy with a noice heart, love representation, hate shady ppl, also unsure about my potential trajectory in the biz.
Feeling silly, might delete later.
Woah, I suck 🤦🏻♂️
I struggle with this a lot as a woman who leads the tech chapter. I get a lot of flack for never hiring/recruiting specifically a black woman, but in the last 3 years I’ve overseen hiring for the chapter, not one has applied. We don’t do any outbound hiring, so it’s not like I can “target” them either.
There are so many unconscious ways we position job openings that discourage diversity. I recommend researching how to solve this from the way you write your job postings to how you design your website and manage PR.
Taxi is no better. Just look at the leadership team running the NYC office. Zero initiative to address the lack of diversity.
Let me guess, one or both has an English accent?
No that only works on the coasts. In the Midwest female leaders are expected to look like Fox newscasters.
