I agree with GRM1. Show your manager that there is no difference whether you do your job fully remote or onsite. What matters most at the end of the day is the quality of work you deliver and the accomplishment of all the tasks under your responsibility.
I have a team of 15, some work fully remote, others hybrid with 2 or 3 days a week onsite. It depends on their work and the site. My searchers work fully remote, the corporate recruiters work mostly remote too, I ask them to work 1 day a week at the office with the rest of the team. The onsite recruiters are responsible for a site with a lot of local hiring managers being there 5d/w, so they have to be there too. I would build a case for your boss, make it visible that there are no differences for your work when working remotely. So onsite/office vs. remote.
Appreciate the feedback! This was my plan.
However, I’m worried it’ll disrupt team morale if I bring up the out of state move and my boss decides he doesn’t want a remote employee. If i decide to stay, I’ll be seen as having one foot out the door. Or if I do go through with the move, it’ll be an awkward work environment until I leave.
Am I overthinking this?
Wait till you have an offer. Then bring it up.
Say you were headhunted.
I don't think remote work is incompatible with management or increased responsibility - don't sell yourself short there.
I would just be open and honest. THis happened to me that (at the time) didn't even have work from home at all. I convinced them to let me pilot a wfh program and it resulted in everyone getting to work from home two days a week. You never know what is going to come of it
I would say just be honest and upfront and present your plan for working remotely. Then tell your boss if that doesn't work for him then you completely understand and give your notice. There are a ton of remote positions out there right
I think you can still talk this out with your boss. You can make certain arrangement that is favorable to the both of you. Just be honest with your boss.
