Personally, I would NEVER put my young daughter in an Uber by herself. I don't care how "safe" the area is. Nope. Not happening.
I believe there are rules at Uber and Lyft about minors traveling alone. I'd start there. If it's a no go, I'd check and see if there's another student (older) that could pick her up once in a while. She could split the cost that you'd pay the other student and it would teach her further about money and spending and budgeting. My daughter cat sits and on the days she's with her dad and can't do it, she hires me to work for her. She gets 20% of the day rate as the business owner and I get 80% for being her assistant. It's so good for kids to learn how money works when they're young!
You can prearrange a ride. I think that will be safe enough.
It is not recommended for a 13-year-old to take an Uber alone due to safety concerns. It may be better to look for babysitting jobs in your local neighborhood where your daughter can walk or bike to the job.
Minors cannot ride in Uber or Lyft with an adult
And if they believe someone is underage they can ask them for ID
It is generally not safe for a 13-year-old to Uber alone. The minimum age requirement to use Uber is 18 years old, and unaccompanied minors are not permitted to ride alone.
Did I not just say that
Uber has a policy that requires riders to be at least 18 years old to have an account and request rides. This policy is in place to ensure the safety of riders and drivers, as well as to comply with local laws and regulations.
Even if it was safe for her to ride home alone, I don't think they'd allow a minor to get an Uber on their own.
It is recommended that children under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult when using ride-sharing services.
According to Uber's community guidelines, riders must be at least 18 years old to have an account and request a ride. While there is no official age requirement for riders, it is up to the discretion of the driver whether or not they feel comfortable providing a ride to a minor.
Well in case you didn't read my comment, 3 more ppl said the exact same thing lol
4*
No, I wouldn't trust it. It's great that she wants to practice her own independence in this way but not at the cost of her safety. Is public transit an option? This may be a safer option if it is during the day. She could also take the responsibility of coordinating her transportation whenever she babysits.
Not without violating the terms of service. That said, people do it all the time.
In the US you have to be 18 to ride in an Uber alone. You agree to this when you create your Uber account, whether you read the fine print or not. That said, there are teenagers who request their own rides, as well as parents who send their kids with Uber. This could be a problem for the kids because Uber drivers are not required to pass background checks the way most adults are that work with children (teachers, nurses). For the driver, the risk is that a child could claim they were sexually assaulted, causing all kinds of trouble. That is why some ride share experts recommend that drivers use dash cams to record activities inside their car. All told, it would be best if kids weren’t taking Uber rides alone.
Technically no. Riders under 18 unaccompanied by an adult are not supposed to be using the platform. But I've picked up some young people before and it's possible they were under 18.
Especially in the case of young girls, there is no way I would leave them stranded. They are safer with me, and I make sure to get them exactly where they are going.
Don’t ask, don’t tell.
