Start paying now, and apply to as many forgiveness programs as you can. The sooner the better. See if there's a way they'll compensate you on the interest through these programs. I've seen other people be successful at it.
Take a breath! This feeling is completely normal and while it's overwhelming, it is what it is and you'll pay it off. Try not to dwell on it too much, that just adds anxiety to the mix. Just follow your career goals, make a plan to pay it off and stick with it! Congrats on graduating!
Hm you owe?
Friends and people I know.
Even if you get 5k from 10 people or 5 people. That's 25k you'll only pay back as 25. You'll be surprised how many people are willing to help.
I had same feeling before.
How much do you owe?
What degree did you get?
What location are you in? Can you live with family?
I owe about $86k right now, down from $95k since graduating in 2022. I got my JD but this is combined from undergrad as well. I'm about 8 hours away from family and no intention of moving home unfortunately
Just pay a bit each month and it will go away one day!
Paying twice a month will save you more money than paying once a month. If your monthly payment is $300, then make a $150 payment 15 days prior to your due date, and $150 close to your due date. This decreases your total balance more often, and you accrue less interest over the term of the loan. If you’re paying less than your minimum monthly payment each time, then contact your lender first to ask if they allow partial payments. Some companies don’t allow this. If you are always making a payment above your minimum monthly payment, then you don’t need to contact your lender.
Thanks for the advice. I have just learned about this tip and will start doing it this month!
Throw your money at any private loans. Under SAVE, the Federal loan payments are low, so just make that until you take care of more important things. For example, children, reliable transportation, career clothes, an emergency fund, and your employer match 401k.
