Smaller firm. Nobody respects LBB. You’ll probably get more hands on experience at the smaller firm too. LBB Junior partners are notorious for hogging all the billing for themselves.
Nobody respects LB and what I knew of Wilson Elser is that it was a mill that paid below market. So people leaving those places to do high margin work on their own sounds really promising, and 45 is small for full service national firms but seems quite large and successful for the work they are doing. When you say professional liability do you mean doing coverage work for all kinds of prof liability insurers or legal malpractice cases?
Can't say just based on this, but here are some things to consider:
1- How stable is the small firm? How long has it been around?
2- Compare the benefits they provide, including the health insurance - some are much better than others, and some benefits have a significant monetary value.
3- What are the partnership prospects at each?
4- Which one will give help you build a practice of your own?
5 - Talk with associates at each and ask about their experience.
6- Where can you see yourself enjoying going to work?
Finally, if you have time, make the decision in your mind, sit with it a while and do a gut check. Then try the same for the other firm.
Best of luck in whichever position you choose!
If you want to make partner, my first thought is I'd rather be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond. What market and practice area is it that LB only wants 1200?
Lmao whoops!
If it’s the same area of law, prob LB. But I’d also be looking at which senior lawyer can teach you more.
