Question related to tax returns - Did anyone experience not having NYC taxes taken out of their paycheck even if their home office/residence is NY and worked in different states?

Personally I prefer to pay it all at the end because of you think about it paying taxes every month is basically providing the government with an interest free loan. Time value of money and all that

like

I think so cause when I did turbotax it said I owed the state of NY $3k. So I'm doing my taxes through the firm to see if they can get it lower

like

Thanks for the info! The only thing I am confused on is that I am looking at all my paychecks this past year and no New York City tax was ever taken out only state even though I live in the city. So when I did my tax returns my tax advisor is like I don't see nyc taxes listed on your W-2. Am I missing something here? And my timesheet is charge code is NY-NYC-Resident only

like

I had this same issue. Paychecks were only taking out NY state not NYC. What happened I think was that my address through the online system was originally a PO Box since my mail had been getting stolen at my old apartment. When I moved to a new place and updated my address from a PO all of a sudden the NYC taxes started coming out of paychecks. I'd check to make sure your 'home address' in the system is in NYC. I still ended up owing a few hundred but luckily was withholding for at least a half year.

like

At EY 1 - should I contact payroll to have them start taking out New York City taxes for this year from my paycheck since they didn't last year especially since I live in the city and I don't want to get audited?

OP check if you can change it on People Mobility. If not start a case with them.

Some of my coworkers filled out new W9s to have it taken out each month so they don't have to pay it all at the end of the year. But really it's up to you as long as you pay it by tax day you're not going to get audited or anything

I don't think where you put your time incurred auto updates for withholding unfortunately

Also - after maxing out your 401k, would you recommend to move to a Roth IRA and contribute the max prior to other investment accounts?

Hi All,
Really need some input. We have our new construction done by April 2023. Builder is giving us 28,000 credits which can be used towards closing cost and buy lock rate for 6 months from now and giving us the interest rate for 6.75% for 30 years from US bank. But I also spoke to credit union they give us 5 ARM for 5.5% but can lock rate in feb 2023. So should go with the US bank with 6.75% plus incentives or wait till feb 2023 and thn lock rates(us bank doesn’t give us ARM rates).

With social security potentially running out, why couldn’t it be an option for the govt to put $5k for every baby that is born in a year into an account Invested in a govt share class S&P 500 fund. Historical average is 10%+, which would provide roughly $2.7 million for a baby born today. Eventually, this would eliminate the need for soc sec tax, and would only cost $18 Billion a year instead of several trillion a year being deposited into the trust.

Looking for ways to streamline Daily staffing/coverage Communication across multiple offices. I prefer to standardize something through Microsoft Teams since we already use that platform, but open to other free applications/tools.
The biggest struggle is each office being able to see “the bigger picture.” My staff (RNs and MAs) complains they are always covering for their home office and other offices and no one covers for them, but that’s not the case. Want them to see how other offices cover.

I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

Is there an easy/efficient way to figure out how much you've contributed to vs earned in your Roth accounts? I started contributing >20 years ago to my employer's Roth 401k and have rolled it over to a Roth IRA and moved it between multiple custodians, e.g. Fidelity, Vanguard, UBS, Personal Capital, etc. It is unclear to me how much I contributed vs how much I earned by investing it.

The purpose of doing this is I want to use $10K of it, but want to prove that the $10K is from my contribution.

For those of you in commercial real estate groups at big firms, what do your hours usually look like? How frequently are you working nights & weekends?
