How do I say to my counselor, "be prepared to see a big fall of my utilization because of things out of my control" without sounding like complaining or having a lot of negativity?

My coworker, who was my friend for a long time, has been lying to me, throwing me under the bus, and taking credit for my work and ideas. I have done more and worked harder than him but he was promoted. He failed a new client big time and I was asked to step in and save the relationship which I did in a big way. Why do I have to work so hard every day while he gets away with scraping by and plagiarizing? How do you deal with a coworker like that?

Is anyone willing to share tips on avoiding burnout and setting boundaries with their executives? I have six people on my desk and am finding it difficult to stay motivated and continue giving everyone the same level of support.

I was passed over for partner but will make of counsel at a V50 firm. I’ve put in the work to make partner, but the firm is making very few this year (less than 10). Am I wrong to feel disrespected?

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

I’m a young(ish) male running a private practice. Been with the group a year and a half and haven’t exactly gelled with some of the older employees. We’ve made tremendous financial improvements but in a meeting last night one of the physicians stated, in front of me, maybe we shouldn’t have hired a young guy to run the practice….I can’t think of a more passive aggressive way to ask someone to leave. I'm lateraling to another firm because frankly I think the management of this one is terrible, but the people (and individual partners) I actually work with are awesome. I've only been here for about 18 months, so I imagine that short time frame will make it extra awkward 😬

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!
