I got a call from HR and offer discussion was over couple of weeks back and still waiting for them to send me final mail to release offer. May I know if they take this much time to release offer, when I did a follow up call after 10 days they said they are waiting for some approval to release offer.

Silent layoffs are happening in India and across other locations. They are doing it on the sly in order to not attract government attention
But if done silently in other countries many can go to the courts and it would invite serious trouble to the bank.. Laws in other countries are much stronger than in India and many cases are settled in record time.. As a part of routine procedure they need to inform exchange as well.. So I am highly doubtful if this has started & happening in India only? Plus many countries have unemployment insurance which would kick in post layoff only.. So employees to be eligible for this they need to be terminated with official notices or information

In US they need to report if they do a mass layoff , if it's bit and pieces it's not reported. Someone from the US can confirm . I do know that in the separation package they get a list of people with ages who were also laid off so the company does not face age related discrimination lawsuits.

As far as I am aware layoffs have occurred in US , india and UK. Not sure about other locations.
Oh ok.. If it had happened in US & UK information should have gone to the exchange and made public.. But I do not see the information anywhere.. Not sure how they will get off the hook
