Serious question on what vacation means in the BigLaw world

Wishing you all a happy holiday (if you have one). 1st year litigation associate here. Just wanted some ideas. How would your firm organize a virtual xmas/new year party?

If you were in a private company assistant controller position being offered $10k more to switch over to public and much better PTO days and fully remote as opposed to an in office position that I’m currently at in a Real estate growing company. Would u do the switch back to public (left public just recently)?

Do you guys give your boss's New Years' gifts? I'm thinking of doing one since I didn't give a holiday gift but thought it maybe weird

Does anyone work for Children’s medical center of Dallas on this form ? I know we recently had a “employee appreciation” bonus last month before Thanksgiving but not sure if that counts as one whole holiday bonus including Christmas , or it it’s safe to expect another in mid December ? What seems to be the latter in the past ? Any thoughts are appreciated !

Does anyone here suffer from bipolar disorder? How do you manage it and working in law? I see a therapist, and a psychiatrist, and am on medication, but I still have days where I wake up and I’m so depressed I can’t move. I’m working on remedying this with my doctors, but how does one approach mental health issues with their employer? I never felt the need to until I realized how much being bipolar can affect my ability to work.

I’m a second year BigLaw associate that pays market. I was offered the position at a modified salary and hourly expectation due to their expected work flow needs. Anyone do employment contract law in Florida? My girlfriend urgently needs a consult on on enforceability / potential damages for breach of a clause in her employment agreement that requires her to give 30 days notice.

Last associates committee meeting is coming up. Partners have asked each associate to come up with... not one... but FIVE marketing ideas. Other than reeling out “we offer competitive pay” in job postings, what are some good ones your firm does?

I’m struggling a bit. If I knew how to market well, I certainly wouldn’t be in this position.

Any advice for dealing with difficult judges? Obviously I don’t expect judge to agree with me on everything, but a few of them just make me want to pull my hair out.

What’s the best way to get out of small law? I am a junior partner and don’t want to be running a law firm by myself in 5-10 years. The mid-level partners are not business-savvy so I don’t see myself wanting to partner with them either. I want to move to a larger firm.

I’m at a mid size transactional firm. I’m a total night owl and my partners have OK’d me starting the workday at around 11am because I regularly work until midnight or later. I get so much more done after dark! I still get some side eye from other associates, but 🤷🏽‍♀️
