How old are you? How much debt do you have?
Take a 25 year view of your career- How would your career look like with and without the Fulbright? Will more opportunities (higher paying) open up with the Fulbright?
I would be biased to the Fulbright opportunity because the potential can be unlimited and does not confine you only to ZS. ZS or something similar will always be there.
Paying down debt is important but you can always do that by being focused/committed and being frugal.
Fulbright is a graduate fellowship which qualifies you for student loan deferment. Sure they’ll accrue a bit of interest but the opportunity and prestige of Fulbright outweighs that.
Do the Fulbright, if anything, it will help unlock more diverse opportunities within ZS and cultivate your expertise in an area where ZS is rapidly growing and expanding. And if you plan to leave ZS, the Fulbright brand will carry a ton of weight. Congratulations on getting accepted btw :)
I'm a fan of the "Regret Minimization Framework": As in, when your 80 years old might you regret *not* taking x opportunity? I've not yet ever regretted travel or living abroad, and it looks like a great opportunity to diversify your experience and network, as well as expand your worldview. Kick any fear to the curb and go!
Definitely do Fulbright. ZS isn’t going anywhere
