Better safe than sorry
I would get rid of the tie. I think most are fine with suit and a shirt.
Yes
Figured as much but just wanted to see what others experiences had been. Thanks everyone for the input!
Better safe than sorry, but I only wore sweater for my interview
Yeah
i wear the tie for the first round then adjust to them and may wear polo on round two
As long as you’re wearing sweatpants, yes.
I had and interview process with 2 interviews that ended in an offer. Wore a suit and tie on both. Both interviewers made comments about how it wasn’t necessary though.
Follow the company’s dress policy and then dress just a notch better.
In this day and age, a button down shirt and the blue blazer for guys is probably sufficient for 90% of the country. (I’m a guy, but for the ladies, I would presume the same- nice blouse and jacket)
Most of my clients’ are total slobs, so a tie would almost make it look like you were trying too hard.
Sweater/tie but got a comment from a partner at Big 4 that she was thrilled to see me wearing a tie as other candidates had not been
I interviewed people via zoom 2 weeks ago. All candidates wore a suit and tie or suit and blouse.
I interviewed for a tech company. Only wore button down
You don’t want them to think you couldn’t be bothered to throw on a tie
I don’t think anyone would feel that way. I think if anything it could make them feel uncomfortable if they show up in a tshirt or polo and you’ve got a full suit on. Shirt and jacket is perfect
I would echo everyone’s sentiments here with Suit and tie. However, I still dressed head to toe as if interview was going to be in person. Worked for me as it got me in the right headspace and I’d only ever interviewed in person (a bit excessive maybe). If Pooh-bearing it works, that’s great too - don’t think I’d ever heard of or expect an interviewer to see what you’re wearing for the lower half so do what you think will work best for you.
Or this...
If you work at Deloitte, is this for an industry interview? I think you definitely need to play to company culture. Suit and tie would only be appropriate for another big 4, banking, or some other formal company/ industry. However if you’re interviewing at a Bay Area tech company as one example, a suit and tie would automatically disqualify you (maybe not technically but people would be taken aback). It may be safer to go with nice button up and jeans.
Short and polo if doing Silicon Valley tech titans 😂🤣 suit and tie are disqualifications.
I’m surprised everyone here wears a blazer. I thought the new norm for in-person interviews is just a dress shirt, no tie or jacket. Is this just for manager type roles? I’ve never interviewed with a jacket, in person or virtual, and I’ve received multiple offers in the past
Time for me to buy a suit
I wore a blouse, no jacket. I did put on makeup and do my hair. Of the people I interviewed with, several were at home in T-shirts or casual tops like normal wfh casual wear and didn’t have time to put on something nicer. One guy did work from the office so he was in business casual. I interviewed in 2020 though. Now that people are vaccinated and offices are opening up for flex work from office I think you should err on the side of dressier.
