Apparently happens more commonly than you think. Hasn’t happened to me but I haven’t been going to the US regularly for work.
Technically you aren’t allowed to do any client work in the US without a TN visa or better. You can only travel to US for internal meetings, conferences or business development on the business visitor. They may not question you occasionally but once you get caught you are blacklisted.
Dang that’s annoying. So this probably going to happen a lot now going forward? Should I just tell them I’m doing an internal meeting?
Have you gotten the visa for working in the US?
I also heard that they ask the same question multiple times as a strategy to get more info so never hide anything. Usually it’s just a random algorithm based on names and events in the past that might’ve caused your secondary check. Happened to my friend.

I’ve had this happen… one time I accidentally mentioned I’m running some analysis, which is considered work, so I got flagged to be checked for a secondary search everytime I cross the border
So what do you tell them during your secondary?
Sad you get treated like a terrorist because you gotta go present a powerpoint in Pittsburgh.
That’s what it seems like 😤
Has happened to my peers. I only travel there for internal company meetings.
