I participated in a public sector project when I was an intern at EYP and the experience brought up my interest, thus I’m very interested in working in the Middle East, for there are lots of government project opportunities.

I am a project manager with the strong desire to transition into product management but I’m feeling a little discouraged. Every opportunity I come across mentions 7-10 years experience. I just started training for the Google UX certification with hopes that may better prepare me. Any other suggestions? Words of advice on how to best make this transition?

Any articles or books on maintaining a trusted client relationship? OR any pointers towards doing that?
One consistent feedback I receive is that I don't follow through on client relationship. I build tremendous trust and good will during an engagement, but I let the relationship die out once we wrap the work out. OR It is luke warm at best with a periodic email once in a while, unable to introduce people or grow the relationship.
Any help?

I started an Independent Study project with my students. They are 7 and 8 year olds. They chose their own topics...and holy cow! We have Nikola Tesla, Fibonacci, history of guitars, coding, etc.

Talk to me about schedules, please. I recently moved back into an IC role and am once again responsible for developing project plans. I absolutely loathe building schedules but I can’t seem to pin point why. Maybe because building a good one with dependencies takes forever or because no one looks at them or because they seem outdated. Why can’t prioritization do the work for us? How do you all approach schedules? Thoughts? Ideas?

I have 5 YOE in Analytics... always thought I wanted to be a DS, but every job (even the junior ones) required experience in ML development. Though I am part of the ML project, I'm not the person develop the model. And I have a hard time when the interviewer ask about how I develop the model and what hyperparameters I tuned. I know the thought process and stuff but 'I' wasn't the one who did that part in the project. How to convince them that I could do the job without taking credit of others.

3 Months back I switched to Infosys as a react developer. The project i am tagged to started from scratch and there is a lot to learn. However parallelly I am also studying DSA and System design since last 6 months. But now I am not able to give enough time to DSA because of this project. I have a offer from ey india - client morgan Stanley with offer -23 lpa fix + 20 percent variable. I will be working from pune location. Project will be somewhat relevant to fraud detection
Another offer is from citi with 24 lpa,project related to market risk And third offer from hsbc of 20 lpa with project related to insurance domain and i will part of a team they call as api team.

Why do lawyers celebrate a culture of poor health?

Burnout: cyclical and becomes so debilitating that I find myself unable to do simple every day tasks. How often do you burnout? What does it entail for you?

Wish apps like BetterHelp were free. I can’t afford healthcare or therapy (I’m unemployed, and yes, I’ve tried seeking pro bono therapy options — no place anywhere nearby offers it.) I really need a therapist I can talk to on at least a weekly basis to just unpack so much that’s bogging me down to the point of being unable to function some days, but it’s just so cost prohibitive! What sucks is everyone assumes this career hands you median wages on a platter but I’m worse off than I’ve ever been.

What about legal work is currently causing your mental health struggles?

Mine’s the hours, which is not normally my issue. I billed 230 for June and July and am already at 145 for August. My ability to focus is getting worse by the day, so I’m working longer to bill the same hours and have had to pull a couple all nighters. I burst into tears this morning when a client changed plans and now wants a major project by end of month, on top of my other deadlines next week... I just want to sleep.

Does anyone have any experience working with a Life Coach/Therapist to help in this industry and just overall? I realize I get in my own way by overthinking and I have trouble executing. Also realizing I doubt myself/ability, so it subconsciously holds me back from implementing things I want to do/achieve. Any recommendation(s) is greatly appreciated!

People with depression in big law- how do you manage? How do you meet your hours? The lack of support/training and being remote has been very hard on me.

When covid first hit, I was delighted to be working from home. My hours even improved. Now, because of some triggering events, I’m dealing with horrible panic attacks on the daily. I’m dissociating and can’t focus long enough to get work done. I JUST hit a year at this firm and am going on a one month stress leave. Worried I might not kick this mental state in that time. Any advice as to what I can do while on leave so I can come back focused and ready to work?

Mental health issues in our profession are finally being recognized. While mental health issues are not unique to lawyers, the profession and it's client service mantra present unique challenges.

question of the day: why did you join this bowl? Since I asked, I will start: I’ve been on a journey of recovery from legal-overachiever-workaholism. Changed jobs, city and environment and still working hard to recover from burnout that is, unfortunately, part and parcel of the legal profession.

Guilt and shame about working in a legal position for years where, instead of using my law degree (was supposed to do legal work per the job posting), I served as a personal assistant to my boss/did nothing for maybe half the time. I feel like I was paid for work I didn't do. I've since left that job but the guilt and shame remains. I feel that I lack the character of a lawyer and that I am unworthy of the profession. I don't know how to make up for the lost years or how to forgive myself.

I have chronic health issues and I’m severely depressed. I can’t even get myself to work anymore. If I don’t quit, I’m in serious danger of being fired. I feel that I need to just quit and take time off to get better but feel that it will be a stain on my career. I’m a pretty junior lawyer. Any advice. I just can’t do any work at all and I’m my anxiety and depression is spiraling out of control. I see a therapist I try to cope and it’s not working.

Anyone here willing to share their firsthand experience of searching for and selecting a therapist? My wife was kind enough to vet a few through our church and her friends, but wondering if I might find a better fit with a therapist who specializes in working with lawyers or small business owners.
