Those of you on daycare boards: Do you have the ability to characterize tuition paid for months you closer (that parents like me let you keep to pay teachers etc) as donations? I’d sure love to take a charity write down for those and cost to you seems negligible.

My kids are in catholic preschool and we were told that we’d have the option to suspend tuition payments in event of another shutdown on a voluntary basis. The intent is that another shutdown could impact family earnings but hopefully people continue to pay if they can.

My thinking is that I’d suspend tuition payments but then make tax deductible donations to the school at the same tuition rate plus an extra amount for the tax benefit so that I’m no better off in terms of monthly cost

Makes sense. I’m wondering about March/April/May where we continued to pay hoping things will turn around, and to support the teachers. It’s a church preschool, so I am assuming has nonprofit status. And we paid significant sums for which no services were provided.

I am on the board of my church/preschool. We stopped asking for tuition and instead asked for people to make tax deductible donations to the church. Those were recorded differently and the donors will receive charitable gift acknowledgements. You would need to contact your school—payments for tuition are not deductible and if you were obligated to make payments even when the school was closed per your parent agreement and those payments are characterized as tuition then it is not deductible.

I wouldn’t think if tuition is now a mandatory charitable contribution in order for your child to remain in the school/program, it would apply as a charitable contribution. There’s a contingency there.

I’m in the same situation myself...

Hi all - any advice for a first time real estate investor looking to make their first purchase at the end of 2021.

I plan on saving $50K, for a $350-400K property in the Long Island, NY area for my first property. Does this sound reasonable? And does anyone have any experience & advice investing in the LI area?

Id like to rent it out for some positive cash flow that I can then start using to save for my 2nd property (sounds easy when I type it).

Thanks all for your input - stay safe!

My company covers in depth results each week, including meetings set/attended, wins, revenue, retention etc. I feel as if evaluating in such depth is detrimental to the psyche, as you never get to “ride the high.” In addition, some weeks are simply slower than others, and it’s not always representative of what the results at the end of the period or quarter will be. Is this not a big deal, and I’m I placing too much importance on it? Or is it beneficial to review results less frequently?

Hello! I need some (creative) suggestions on how to do a video interview. I live in a very small 1br apartment with my husband occupying the bedroom for work during the day and a 2 yr old occupying the living area. I thought of the kitchen but it’s proximity to a busy road makes it a little too noisy to have a good call. The bathroom perhaps? Will that create an echo? I am thinking of using a backdrop so that the mess will be covered up. It will be a 30-min interview.

Writing annual goals. What are examples of how to write “quantifiable” goals as a consultant? Are you measuring number of relationships built, projects, or something else?

Most of consulting is advising on solutions to problems, but I don’t control the outcome, whether the advice is implemented, or the budget. Sales is easy (e.g. “sell $2M of products/services this year”) because there is a clearly defined measurement. What can consultants measure?

Susan Collins speach on the Senate floor is phenomenal. I listened to it live and a second time today. For 40 minutes, she explains that many of the left's concerns regarding Kavanaugh are unwarranted
