Kind souls who successfully exited to Google,
Would you be kind enough to refer me to a role at Google!
Came across a role that's a good fit. Would ideally like to target it through a referral and not by applying through the career site.
Would also love to maybe take you for a meal or alike to thank you for it :) Google

Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

I accepted a rate that’s 30% lower than my usual because unemployment insurance requires that you don’t turn away any offers of employment 😭

“Pandemic Pricing” is real. They know that there is barely any freelance so they can do it to us. I have taken it because it’s still a lot higher than unemployment insurance. But it’s less than what I got in my full time job. Also it doesn’t make it right.
Yes! I’m getting gouged. 30% or so
most of us still with jobs took a 10%-30% pay cut, so this sounds about right.
sorry, i didn’t mean to say “right” as in it should’ve happened. i meant the same percentage aligned with the cuts.
i’m sorry for all this. i’ll shut up now.
@CD I’ve seen you or someone else post a very similar response numerous times. And while I agree that freelancers shouldn’t adjust their rate too much, the fact is that staff positions have been “adjusted”. I have recently seen or interviewed for numerous jobs that are at par or even bigger in scope to my past positions, and each one is roughly 30% less $$. I’m looking at positions that literally pay what I made years ago. I know I’m not alone as I’ve spoken to friends in various disciplines and we are all seeing this. i’m not sure if the people who are employed who had to do a Covid salary cut will see their salaries return to where they were (even if they were billed as temporary) but the new hires will be dealing with this for awhile, I’m sure
Saatchi notoriously overpaid. That’s why we all stayed despite working in Torrance on digital Toyota commercials. Money doesn’t equal happiness! Despite a significant pay cut you’ll probably find yourself more fulfilled. If you’re passionate about the project take it, it will probably lead to more $$ down the road.
Please stop reducing your rates with heavy discounting. Agencies are taking advantage of you. Getting back to your typical rates will nearly be impossible.
You have to pay self employments taxes, health insurance, put money away for IRAs on your own since companies are too cheap to give you benefits.
Have you asked your nanny, your doctor, your tax advisor, your grocery store, your hair stylist, your landlord, your student loan administrator, your gas station to discount their prices?
Please stop as hard as it may be. Heavy discounting hurts us all, especially career freelancers. Especially in today’s times, we need to stick together and end this race to the bottom rate race. It’s not sustainable and the only winners are the agency shareholders. Know the value that you bring and your worth.
