(i posted this on another thread)
so, are we not allowed to take steps towards diversity? has to be all or nothing?
instead of working together and at least supporting the moves in the right direction, we’re mocking or criticizing anyone that doesn’t do it all.
there’s a “circular firing squad” comment to be made: we’re aiming at the same enemy, but shooting our allies in the process.
That’s a terrible defense. And doesn’t stand up anymore
I love how quickly we’ve come to resent the “privilege” of women as though only the most under-served are the ones we’re allowed to talk about.
do you have any more weird, non-applicable analogies to get out of your system or are you done?
here's the other thing: i sincerely doubt that it was just a panel where people rattled out numbers and called it a day. that wouldn't be a very good panel. there was likely some analysis, insights, and conclusions being drawn from the research and discussed. and all that, especially insights, is informed by our background and experiences. and everyone sitting up there has about the same background and experiences as upper-class, able-bodied white women, when we would've benefited a lot more from having the perspective of people who actually experience the effects of the phenomenon in question.
this picture is not just a laughable look at the state of agency life: it's one of many frames of time showing that the future direction of advertising is being decided for us and without us, even when it's directly about us. not cool or good.
72 is bro culture they only talk about diversity because they are always following industry trends. They promoted females because of the #metoo movement. They hired a black ECD cause of #blacklivesmatter. 72 never practices what they preach so this doesn’t surprise me. Love Xante and Evin but pretty sure neither of them have any clue of diversity or even diverse friends :(
I’m asking seriously: had they included a female POC on the panel would you have deemed it a success? (Assuming the content was quality )
