Unless you work in a few industries where your actions have life-or-death consequences, nothing we do is really that important. Try to adjust your perspective a bit and remember that.
Research unemployment regulations for your area.
Literally this happened to me two months ago. Mental swirl means you truly care, and because you’re a responsible person, it affects you. How I got out of it is that I was committed to be extra responsible and careful. At the same time, I reminded myself that these things happen, not to be hard on myself as it doesn’t define me or you.
I’m a SME in mental swirl. I can take myself back and relive mistakes from years ago. What I’ve learned in my 50s is that we are all human, as hard as that is to admit. I try to say (or think to myself) what I would say to a close friend if they had made that mistake. Chances are, because you are so conscientious, you’d give them a lot of grace. You deserve the same. Apologize, research the issue so it’s preventable in the future and continue to grow. A mistake is an opportunity to learn and grow. Now you know you had a blind spot. Put a mirror there and move on.

Mistakes happen. Let them slide.
When you’re in the moment, don’t try to mentally “argue” your way out of the emotion.
Instead, focus on a physical sensation by employing e.g. breathing exercises, tapping on pressure points, flexing different regions of your body, etc.
Your goal is to essentially treat it like an anxiety attack and get your parasympathetic nervous system out of the “fight or flight” mode. Once that moment has passed you can look at what to do next.
Many of us are so overworked and exhausted that mistakes happen. We are humans, not machines.

The best, most appreciated, most productive move for you yourself is to learn from your mistake, take responsibility (you have), and take actions that prevent similar situations in the future. You will feel (soon) hopeful and empowered, an agent in your successes if you own and improve. It is a habit tha creates a virtuous circle and actually builds your self esteem
People who do this well also get the reinforcement from leaders who have figured this out
Keep on caring!

If you’re a good worker it is a lot harder for a company to replace you even if you make a few mistakes. As long as you learn from it and try to prevent similar problems in the future, it will pass. I like music, meditation, or going for a walk when I start spiraling.
