We’re rapidly losing staff and my stress level is the highest it’s been in a while. It’s triggering severe depressive and anxiety symptoms - can’t sleep, racing thoughts, extremely irritable, reclusive and don’t want to be around people, feeling hopeless. I feel like I’m going crazy, even with my meds that have worked quite well up until now. I want to say something to my boss, but I’m not even sure how to problem solve. This situation isn’t compatible with the way my brain is wired.

You’re not alone: with people leaving companies or leaving the industry altogether, combined with lower than usual revenue for a lot of agencies, I’m not seeing any serious hiring happening. I see postings up the wazoo on LinkedIn but with the way that jobs have been condensed and then condensed and then condensed again into fewer roles, the descriptions are hyper-specific and in most cases, badly paid.

All this to say that I can believe that you’re in a rough spot. If your agency is open to someone in a freelance spot, feel free to DM me and I can check my network.

In the meantime, prioritizing sleep any time you can get it (without OTC help) is the best booster for your meds and mental health. This is easier said than done. We’re living in a time that will have an impact on our brain chemistry for a long time. It’s not you, it’s the environment you’re in both at work and in the world.

Can you take some time off — even if it’s just a day or two — to recalibrate? It sounds like work is exacerbating these symptoms, and if you can take a break from it, please do.

If your boss is understanding, you don’t necessarily need to problem solve quite yet; informing them of your stress levels and having a candid discussion may be helpful regardless.

That sounds so tough. Taking some time out, even if its just 10 minutes in the morning when you wake up. Our cortisol levels are highest in the morning when we wake up so taking 10 mins of meditation / yoga or even just reading before you check you're emails could help. Plus, avoiding any caffeine for the first hour upon waking is advised. I'd be very happy to talk more about how a Yoga & Wellbeing programme could support you in this time.

Did you do the NIPT? I just had my first prenatal appt and they scheduled me for the NIPT at 10 weeks. I’m a little nervous and anxious. Did anyone get it and got a false positive? Do you not recommend it? I wish I could ask family but we’re not telling anyone until the 12 weeks mark.
