Following. In exactly the same boat. Been 6 years 😅
To start... Make a list of companies you want to work for. Then make a list of connections to those companies. Exercise everyone in your network if you are on good terms. Targeting a specific area limits you by a lot, but many people look in a certain city.
I've switched job ~5 times in the last 20 years, including out of, and back into, consulting. Executive Recruiters still hold the keys to top jobs - make connections with the big ones in your area. Do all the networking, etc. but don't rule out old school headhunters. You do need to figure out what you want to do - at least function or industry. And when you take a corp job, go for business line / P&L jobs. Strategy functions sound very cool and are a good fit for an ex-consultant, but rarely have any career path.
I'm in strategy consulting, as a generalist. I've done a ton of different projects in different industries and functional areas.
Maybe this is why I can't figure out where to look?
OP, my alter ego, do you also happen to live in the Bay Area and are questioning your life’s purpose seeing those techies make hundreds of grands in bonuses? 😬😬
I’ve literally the same profile as you.
Networking is the best way to find new opps. What are kind of consulting are you in?
I applied online....
@ATK1 - what’s the best way to get started with headhunters? How do you even get in touch with one?
Also @ATK, do they charge fees? Or take a cut of your signing bonus?
