Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

Because public accounting sucks
Hate that busy seasons get in the way of my personal life. I work to live, not the other way around. Also the peaks and valleys of the business is what makes busy seasons hit so hard. Having nothing to do for extended period of time and then getting bombarded with shit is annoying
You hate accounting
I like money and i want to be paid better
Extremely short sighted if money is your end goal. You’ll get an overnight raise that seems big at the time but gets gapped by everyone that stayed a couple more years and leaves after senior or manager.
Busy season ends up being more than half the year + working on multiple clients on the same time with similar deadlines.
I left after two years because I didn’t feel like I was learning anything I was actually interested in. It makes it really hard to grind when your work is boring as hell - I was in tax so the longer I stayed, the hard it seemed to transition. A year and a half is enough time to tell if you like something or not
I went to an operational accounting role, then moved into finance.the person in the role before me did the same, so when I was originally applying I knew it was a possibility
Found something that pays more and is more interesting. (Not hard to do)
Anyone have a good reason to provide to a interviewer when they ask why I want to leave PA?
I always start by saying I’ve appreciated my time at the firm and how I’ve been exposed to and learned a great deal technically and soft skills wise. Then go on to say you want the opportunity to learn something new and challenge yourself with a different role
