2-5% and it took me a couple years to prove myself that I should be paid commission.
Collected attorneys fees
I was offered $200K base plus 5-10% of fees on all cases depending on how many cases brought in, guaranteed minimum of $500K in first year, promise of 7 figures. I am very junior non-equity partner in L&E so even the starting guarantee is pretty competitive especially for P side and even moreso if I can get to 7 figures pretty quickly. I was also offered the opportunity to take associates with me (at lower pay / percentages). Really thinking strongly of taking it.
I'm like an 8th-9th year T3 grad Biglaw type.
Would ruin my chances of ever going back to Biglaw or in house but the comp opportunity is definitely attractive as well as getting away from some of the billable hour nonsense and constant pushback on rates. Also don't like how many other partners from other practices view L&E as less profitable (versus other lit or M&A) or as a service practice and sometimes treat us as such, so L&E partner comp generally lower.
Obviously base is significantly lower, "prestige" is significantly lower, many doors will shut, but really considering this.
At my firm we receive a base salary + percentage of fees. I didn’t receive fees my first year as an attorney, and then after that started at 2.5%, and that’s supposed to go up each year as a raise but that doesn’t always happen.
The only ones making the real money in plaintiffs employment are the partners.
I was offered $135 + 5% as a 3rd year in CA. 100% remote.
I'm inclined to agree, I think you're not making good money until your a partner unfortunately if your on the plaintiff side
