What kind of opportunities exist for a healthcare corporate/M&A attorney and what characteristics make an associate a desirable candidate to companies in the healthcare industry?

Personality is key. Ability to talk to people outside of your industry/business people. You could look at health insurance companies, hospitals, med tech companies, etc. All have M&A, or at least my company does

Unfortunately, I think most HC companies are looking for more regulatory experience than anything else. Transactional or contract drafting can certainly be desired for companies doing a lot of MSA or BAAs, etc but I think they’d rather a regulatory attorney get proficient at that than vice versa. Many PE firms or larger HC institutions may need HC corp experience for their roll-ups. I’d focus on a niche and then target companies in that niche - e.g. health it vendors or payor contracting

As far as I know, the only companies looking for transactional experience are the big ones that do transactions, e.g., HCA, Tenet, Steward, etc.

Is there anyone who has worked for MBB before joining Deloitte? I took the plunge- I was in the Knowledge Consulting track (so, same hours, same work, half pay compared to integrative) with McKinsey, joined Deloitte about 6 months back... But things seem such lower quality compared to pretty much everything McK. And this stretches from the quality of solutions, to D's ability to counsel clients,to the benefits package AND to back office processes.

Is this expected?Or am I doing something wrong?

Need advice: Received a race and gender discrimination complaint from an employee involving 2 company C-level execs, one of them to whom I report. Usually I would conduct my own internal investigation. Since this involves the highest levels, I can’t escalate it, I’m not an employment law expert, I’m a generalist. My plan is to involve our outside employment counsel. Usually I go through one of the execs before interacting with outside counsel. (Continued in comments)

I'm the in-house at a small consulting firm in LATAM, I've been here for 3 years now and my salary is slightly above the market.
These people has been very good to me, they even accepted that I went out in working hours some days to attend my LLM (I worked extra hours to compensate).
Now I'm receiving a job offer from an American CRO. I'd only center in contract and budget negotiations, which is a portion of what I currently do.
I'm afraid that I could change a great position for nothing, WDYT?

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.

Been interviewing and having a hard time feeling qualified for the jobs I’ve applied to. Got to advanced rounds at a few places and been really having imposter syndrome but I’ve never felt it at my law firm. Firm work is just different than in house and it leaves me feeling really unqualified! For those that went from firm to in house, did u feel the same? I’m staying within my speciality, but the work that gets farmed out is diff than what stays in house. Having doubts about my qualifications!

Do people really ever get jobs through cold interviews from job postings? I’ve been trying it for years, done alot of third-round interviews and such, all generally positive experiences, but every job I’ve ever landed has involved a personal recommendation, warm intro, or someone I’ve worked with at a previous role or as a competitor, etc. A fair number of the jobs I’ve notice go “unfilled” with postings remaining up for months or years after. Most places draw out the process 2+ months.

For all the transactional lawyer out there… I had a month to close a deal and negotiate entirely a contract. Initially I suggested a clause from the pre signed agreement but then realized I could do better and I proposed a new wording. I am very used to seeing this during a negotiation where amendments are altered or new versions are suggested. Would love to know your experience and if it is normal to you to change the amendment proposal during negotiation? Sales team is putting lot of pressure!

Started an in-house job after leaving a firm. I love it. Looking back on my old job, I now realize how gaslighted and manipulated I was. People at the new job treat me with such respect, it feels amazing (also sad that my bar is now so low).

As a result, I'm super motivated to do a good job and deliver, but this is a BIG job, one where I can't come close to clearing my plate every week. I'm working 12 hour days to be as responsive as I can, but I know that's a recipe for burnout. Advice?

How different is litigating in-house vs. in private practice? I’m tired of litigating in private practice and am contemplating a move to an in-house litigation role with a public university—but the pay will definitely be less, so I don’t want to make the switch if it is going to just be the same hamster wheel.
