I live in NYC and recently started interviewing for positions in VA. On average, the offers are higher than the ones I’ve received in NY. I have 11 years of experience, worked for Google, AOL and a VC firm. Does tech companies in Northern VA provide higher comps on average vs NYC?

Is moving to a HCOL city a bad move financially? If my fiancé and I are making $70k+ in our LCOC market we’d expect an increase in salary to move. Does it even out over time? Is buying property in a HCOL city better than in a LCOL city?

This might be the wrong place to ask but is getting a car worth it?

I think it’ll somewhat improve QOL but with parking, insurance, gas and financing costs I’m not sure spending almost 1K/month is a good idea at 22.

The other problem is that used cars are so damn expensive right now so I can’t just buy a used mx5 for 5-10K

I had 50% in VT and 50% in individual stocks in my brokerage account but I just accepted a job from a Big 4 so I need to sell some of my individual stocks. I need to invest that amount in something else and I want to tell my portfolio a little bit towards something that’s a bit more risky for higher potential returns.
