It needs time. Young adults are passionate, full of drive, and eager to contribute even when they are away. It is something you need to consistently remind (for example, share the same advice during your team meeting every single time someone is going on leave). When they do reach out checking in, just remind again. We have to take on the naggy mother/father role, but it will get to them some day.
Never send/answer emails after office hours. Ever. This has been my mantra. I keep telling my organization that sending an email after office hours means expecting someone to work for you during their personal time, taking away time from family or personal endeavors.
We have to set an example.
Yes!! I really like the send later function and encourage the team to use it. If it’s an email for east coast teams, it arrives at 8:30 their time, directed to them, if only for west coast 8:30 their time. When I screw up and don’t use send later on the weekend I follow up with “sorry that was suppose to be a Monday email, please do not respond”

Modeling it for sure.
If it is them and not company culture, helping them get access to tools that regulate their nervous system (once the body ‘sets’ at a high speed for a long time it is very difficult to come down).
Things like acupuncture and massage can help, EFT/tapping too.
Shut down their e-mail/Outlook account until they return. Problem solved!
You usually hear about the new mom calling the babysitter every 30 minutes or more on the first time away from the baby.
The education system and company performance metrics seem to ingrain in us that if we are not there, it’s going to fall apart. If it falls apart, I failed as an employee. If I fail as an employee, I’m not going to get promoted or a pay raise or laid off or fired.
If we are talking about fresh out of school. I think celebrating the small wins - two days without seeing you on teams! (Have a sticker) Is something that could help ease these new employees in the right direction.
If we are talking about seasoned folks from 24/7 companies - that is a different conversation and I would still use the sticker approach.
