Disagree A1. It's nice dressing up for a night and enjoying an evening with colleagues and +1s. I wish our company had a proper winter ball / holiday event. When's the last time you've seen something that's not a glorified happy hour?

like

A1 enjoy your parallel universe. Seems like it's really cool over there.

A1 stay out of this, your opinion is completely irrelevant.

Generally it's black tie optional. You'll see some tuxedos

like

Yeah can't go wrong in a tux

like

Bow tie?

like

Sorry to say it but damn that is pretentious lol people wear tuxes to Christmas parties? And people wonder why MBBs are losing market share! It's 2016 even the world's richest people drive normal cars and go to work in jeans...

like

BCG dress policy : clothing optional

like

Hahah I can't imagine it's any different from our Christmas party

like

Strategy (my DTE) party last year was at Untitled with a jazz band and this year it's at the Athletic Club... I'd say those are some of the top places in Chicago for a holiday party and everyone was dressed up nicely. Not everyone can afford a tux and my point is it creates a bubble for the company and a bubble inside the company as well

like

@B5 my C level client at at telecomm big 4 calls McKinsey the kids in suits because even his CEO comes in a polo and it's why they decided to give us a try instead... Happened before exactly with a healthcare insurance company too

A1 no idea how you think we're losing market share, but enjoy your bubble

My natural instinct is to assume rejection if I have conflict with a partner or don’t think my feelings are reciprocated. I’ll try to bring it up with them, but I’ll say “if you want to end this feel free” so it doesn’t hurt me (and they can say what they really mean instead of sugarcoating). Someone told me today that they just assume I’m not interested because I always seem to “run” but I’m not sure how to bring up problems/feelings otherwise. How do you approach these hard questions?

There are many reasons why people in the working world are not direct when speaking. They are one of the following:

* They pretend they are experts
* They are inexperienced
* They are full of themselves
* They don't know what they are looking for
* They love to talk

Even if these people have good intentions, be careful of them. Your time is valuable, and the best thing for you to do is to be direct back at them.

Hi all

I am getting mails to report to office.
My base location does not have a hot seat.

Should this not be the focus from HR side to get a seat allocated rather than pushing employees to report to a random office that have a seat.?

And On top of that we have to take care of our own commute even when we are in shifts.

Why is this unprofessional and unethical behaviour?
Why is an employee responsible for everything which the HR and PMO is supposed to do??

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)
